Massive congratulations to Tom Bebber and Stuart Morgan who have won the Ellis Championship and Scott Cup.
Stuart shot a fantastic 77 Nett 65 on day 1 to see him challenging for both trophies, a second round of 77/65 saw him beat Nick perkins by 3 shots who had the low score of the weekend on Sunday with a Nett 64.
Having walked the back 9 holes i watched Stuart play and he was very impressive and a second 77/65 saw him take the title and a very desrving winner, Stuart has been a member a long time and i think its safe to say he was delighted when presented with the Scott Cup by Club Captain Ian Brotherton.
Tom shot 72 on Saturday in what was a very tough scoring day, with everyones short game needing to be at its best, Sunday saw Tom have a 5 shot lead and he may of thought it wasnt going to be his year after starting with 3 Bogeys and Robert Smith then having a 6 foot putt on 8th to go -3 for the day and tie the lead with Tom, but a very composed and impressive Bebber shot -2 from the 4th onwards with a run of 8 pars and 1 Birdie on the back 9 seeing him shoot a fantastic 71 and take the title by 7 shots.
Having walked the back 9 i must say yesterdays golf from Tom is probably best back 9 holes of golf under presssure i have witnessed in the Club Championship, somehow getting up and down out of the greenside bunker on 10th to a impressive 2 putt across the 11th Green, he never looked fazed, and after a impressive 2 on 16th he then pulled the driver out on 17th and hit his tee shot just short of the green, with a commanding lead he just needed one more Tee shot to get away and the title would be his, and not surprising he found the middle of the fairway and left himself a short pitch into the 18th, and a solid two putt saw him claim the Title by 7 shots.
Richard Ellis ( Merv Ellis son) was also present to award Tom his first Championship.
It goes without saying there are alot of Thank yous that have to be said from Nikki and her staff again, Paul Drinkwater who was here both days to start the players off, everyone who helped marshal and ball spot, Paul Mansell, Paul Black, Anthony Long thank you all. Luke does a great job has competition secretary and yet again he has done a fantastic job.
I know how hard Duncan and his team have worked to get the course in great condition again ready for the Championship having come in at 4am all week to hand water the greens to ensure the course was presented in its best condition possible, so thank you Duncan and all your team, and it was mentioned by the Captain and Tom in their speeches how good the course was.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event and it was great to see so many members walking the last few holes and watching the players.
