Gloucester Golf Club Competition Rules

Gloucester Golf Club Competition Rules

Please note: All players should be aware of the importance of obeying and being seen to obey, the Rules of Golf. Failure to do this has resulted on several occasions in disciplinary action being taken, which can have serious consequences.

Always make sure your marker knows what you are doing and why and that he has the chance to observe your actions. If you are a marker and are not sure why a player has taken a certain action, then politely ask him and clear up any doubts on what as taken place. A ruling can then, if necessary, be sought from the committee. This should avoid simple misunderstandings of players’ actions and lack of knowledge of the rules.

1. All Competitions and matches are played under the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews with the addition of the following Club Rules. Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews with the addition of the following Club Rules.

2. To retain an official handicap and be eligible to play in any Club Competitions and Matches a member must have paid the appropriate Gloucester Golf Club annual subscription.

3. In all singles strokeplay competitions players will normally receive 95% handicap allowance. In all 4 Ball Betterball strokeplay competitions the allowance will be 85%.

4. For all competitions; the maximum handicap for Men is 28 and for Ladies it is 36.

5. On the day of a competition players may practice on the practice putting green and/or the drving range.

6. All competitions must be played from the competition tees of the day as communicated and play must commence from the 1st Tee or alternatively from the 10th Tee when this is in use as an official starting tee.

7. In pairs events all players have a responsibility towards fellow competitors and must continue to mark their playing partner’s card until 18 holes have been completed or until such time as both parties are in agreement to abandon play. As long as one pair wish to continue then their card must be marked or arrangements made to find another marker.  For individual strokeplay events, the round must be completed unless there is a valid reason. (see Rules of Handicapping 3.2a).  In these circumstances the score may be used for handicapping purposes if the criteria in Rules of Handicapping 3.2b are met.  If it is determined the player did not complete the round for an invalid reason, the score is not acceptable for handicapping purposes and a penalty score may be added to the player’s record depending on circumstances. (see Rules of Handicapping 7.1b).

8. All cards taken out must be posted in the appropriate competition box at the earliest time on completion of play.

9. It shall be a condition of any competition organised by Gloucester Golf Club that players must walk at all times during a stipulated round, unless permitted to use a golf buggy by a member of the Committee, in accordance with this policy. However a golf buggy may be used by a player or caddie who can provide a valid current medical certificate of disability in accordance with this policy and has requested permission to use a golf buggy by the closing date for any competition they seek to enter or in which they seek to caddie. Where the disability prevents the player from driving the buggy, he/she may nominate a third party to drive the buggy for them who must be approved by the Committee in the event that permission is granted.
