Captains Day 2018Posted: 30/07/2018
For those of you who played on Saturday i think you will all agree Darren and his family put on a fantastic day, Darren arrived early Saturday with his wife Jo, Darren was on the 1st Tee welcoming all his guests with a drink from 7am..
Jo was accompanied by Sean Dunnes wife Adele ensuring all guests paid their entrance fee and knew the rules of the day, to watch out for the 6 holes which had 2 flags on each green, whist also ensuring you didnt spill their glass of champagne which never seemed to look empty !!! On behalf of all of us at Gloucester Golf Club i thank them both as it was certainly a long day for them, and these days cant run without these people.
I think the title ' Greenkeepers revenge ' was pretty accurate looking at where Joe Curtis placed some of the flags for you.
I cant not thank Joe and his team as the course again was in fantastic condition, as it has been all year, Nikki and her team again were fantastic, i must mention a special thank you to Nikki who only came out of Hospital on Tuesday after having four wisdom teeth removed and i could see she was in pain, as late friday she was back at the Hospital having more stitches in her mouth.
Darren if you could also pass our thanks onto Hey Pesto who were the caterers, who i must say were very professional and the food was complimented by everyone i spoke to.
There were some fantastic scores and congratulations to Sally Hawkins who won the Ladies Section, Sally has not long been a member of Gloucester but is playing some great Golf this year.
In the Mens Section Roland Ewin came 3rd with great score of 47 Points, second saw Steve Hayward yet again in the prizes, not many weeks go by without Steve in the prizes and im sure Derek will be looking closely at cutting his handicap.
The winner with 49 points was Shay Morgan who won the special prize of a helicopter flight over Gloucester Golf Club with a bottle of champagne, and if he decides to propose whilst over the Golf Course wed be happy to have the reception at the Golf Club Shay!!! Not only was Shays speech up there with one of the best ive heard he also passed on all our thoughts to Paul Gifford and his family, so thank you Shay.
The evening was fantastic and i sat back with my son and watched everyone enjoy the night, Dave Tallon was trying to impress the Cheese table with his moves, whilst Paul Mansell produced one of the worst floss dances ive ever seen, Pete Hanlon was then back in the ring teaching Rob Smiths Daughter how to box, whilst the rest enjoyed a singer who was fantastic and danced the night away.
Thanks again for a fantastic day Darren, and ill leave you with two pictures that for me summed the day up.
