Club ChampionshipPosted: 07/06/2018
The Club Championship was held last weekend which saw 84 players start of on Saturday morning all hoping to make the cut for the Sunday and then be with in a chance of winning the ultimate prize in Club Golf.
The Weather was fantastic, the course after what was a heavy storm on Thursday was in excellent conditions and many compliments were made by the players about the standard of the Course and a big congratulations to Joe his team and every member that helped prepare the course for the Club Championship.
The new fence around the 1st Tee looks really good and im sure along with the PA system to announce players onto the Tee tested the players nerves.
There were some fantastic scores with Jack Davies winning the Scott Cup with Nett Rounds of 71 and 64, Jacks 64 hides a score that could quite easily of been a Nett 59, Jack started Sunday with a Double Bogey and finished his round Bogey, Double Bogey, Bogey, im sure Jack will thank me for sharing this with everyone!!! Jack my congratulations to you on two fantastic rounds and a deserved cut in your handicap.
This year saw Gary Ash win the major honour of the year, Gary shot 75 on Saturday which saw him go into Sunday tied for the lead with Paul Elkins with Tom Longley two shots behind.
On Sunday Gary then produced a fantastic gross 73 to claim victory and win the Club Championship for 2018. I watched the closing holes on Sunday as the players came to the final four holes the championship was still there to be won by a few players, but a fantastic up and down out of the front right bunker on 15, a steady two putt par on 16 saw Gary have a lead coming into the last two holes where sensible golf would see him claim victory, Gary did just that and after a iron of the tee on 17 put him in A1 position he then hit a great shot to 10 feet, and the rest is history.
Congratulations Gary on winning the first Club Championship of our new era as a Members Club.
