President, Captain Course Manager & General Manager win National BIGGA Final
Posted: 01/11/2019This year saw the President, Captain, Course Manager & General Manager enter the regional qualifier for the National BIGGA Trophy at Cumberwell Park, after finishing runners up on the day with 86 points it was enough to qualify for the national Final at Frilford Heath.
The Final was held on Monday October 28th, the day didn't start well for Keith who arrived with no putter in his bag and had to borrow one out of the Pro Shop ( thank you Ben Brooke for taking mine!!!!)
But after starting on the 10th and after our first 9 holes we had 46 points with the best two stableford scores counting on each hole, Joe made the fatal mistake of telling everyone how well we had played on our front nine!! things didn't go to plan for the next 3 holes until Sean holed a 20 foot putt for birdie our luck then changed again, we finished strong and ended up with a total of 89 points which was 3 more than we achieved in the regional qualifier.
When the Presentation took place 2nd place was announced on 89 points and losing on count back which then made us realise with our front 9 counting as back 9 score we had won.
BIGGA is a fantastic organisation and Joe being part of BIGGA and has entered this event for the past 7 years led the team to the Trophy and made his very proud thank you speech.
I wont go on and mention the Captains fantastic two shots to the Par 5 14th which left him 10 Feet for eagle. ( A solid 5 Mr Captain!!) as being honest I was absolute C!@p all day and my 3 playing partners were fantastic.
Sean also won nearest the pin after his 9 iron finished 9" away from the flag.
Not only did we win the National Trophy but probably more valuable was an envelope that was presented to Joe which was for over £1,000 worth of accommodation and seminar vouchers for the Greenkeepers to use at the National Greenkeeping show at Harrogate later in the year.
A personal big thank you to my playing partners as I was not going to win anything on my own on this day the way I played.
Joe was rightly very proud of the Teams achievement and will be trying his best next year when he tries to retain the Trophy.
